A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of working with a few of my friends who are in the creative business, as well. I wanted to do a styled boudoir session at 600 Main Street Victorian Bed & Breakfast in Toms River, NJ. I wanted to celebrate women. So many of us are so hard on ourselves, on how we see ourselves when we look in the mirror.
Myself included. I am certainly not one to think I'm perfect, because I'm not. No one is. I think thats the most beautiful thing about it all. I think imperfection is beautiful. Every freckle, every extra pound that you wish you could just lose, that awkward phase you get into when you're trying to grow out a short hair cut, chipped fingernail polish, you name it. Everything is so beautiful about womanhood. We need to celebrate ourselves more, and criticize less. Life is already hard, why make it harder?
The first time I had someone inquire about a boudoir session, I'll admit I was scared. I was so worried of not capturing her as she really was, beautiful. I wasn't sure how I was going to pull it off. I'm not afraid to admit that. Once I started photographing everything fell into place. After I was done and looked back on the photos, I was so happy that I accomplished capturing all of her beautiful angles and uniqueness. At that moment boudoir was something I wanted to dive in to, body and soul. I put my all into each and every boudoir session. I don't want you to want to be photoshopped, there is no reason for it. You are perfect just the way you are. Each and every session I do is about showing that, is about empowering women. I love helping women see themselves in the mirror as they should.
Now when I looked for models for this styled shoot, I had the help of my very good friend, Desiree. We couldn't have been more excited for this day to come.
My first model, Jenna. Jenna is a hair and make up artist, as well as stunning! When I approached Jenna about modeling for the shoot, she was nervous. She told me she had to think about it. This was completely understandable, wondering if allowing someone to show photos of you when you're in lingerie is a good idea or not. I get it. I've been there. When she said it was good to go, and agreed to do it. I was so excited and happy. Jenna is a strong, funny, witty girl. She's independent, and shamelessly so. Her laugh is genuine, and she can make anyone laugh. She also has a phenomenal voice. She's a go-getter. Not sure whether to believe me? See for yourself...
